Generations in Jazz accolades for Immanuel students

At the annual Generations in Jazz Festival in Mt Gambier this year, our Vocal Jazz Blue were announced as the Best Large Vocal Ensemble in Division 1, but the awards didn't end there.

From over 4,800 students, Jazzie Vanua (Year 8) received the award for ‘most promising vocalist’ and Jordan Paterson (Year 11) was announced in the Division Two SuperBand on flute.

Congratulations to the award winners as well as to all our students who all performed at the highest standard. The feedback was amazing – simply outstanding from all.

Generations In Jazz is an annual weekend Jazz Festival held in Mount Gambier, Australia. It is held in May and brings together many of Australia’s most talented young jazz musicians to participate in and compete for the 'James Morrison Instrumental Jazz Scholarship', 'Generations in Jazz Vocal Scholarship', and the 'City of Mount Gambier National Big Band Awards'.  The weekend in May provides an environment for young musicians to perform and learn in a relaxed atmosphere, share fellowship with their peers, and the opportunity to hear professionals like James Morrison, Gordon Goodwin, Daryl Somers, Ross Irwin, and Graeme Lyall perform. Many schools make this an annual event with many school, community and combined high school bands traveling great distances from all over the country.

Generations in Jazz not only attracts the jazz legends of today, but the bright stars of tomorrow, bringing together thousands of Australia’s most talented musicians, along with a growing list of global artists. High school students from more than 100 schools around the nation compete in the Stage Band Awards, while individual Jazz and Vocal Scholarships are also highly coveted, helping to secure the musical destiny of individuals with enormous promise. And then there are the daily concerts – the sound inside the James Morrison big top pavilion, seating up to 6100 people in the middle of a paddock, is simply incredible!
