Immanuel at Generations in Jazz 2019

Generations in Jazz 2019 is being heralded as one of the best musical experiences for more than 5200 jazz students representing schools from across the nation, and this year overseas. Immanuel friend and mentor Ross Irwin acting as Musical Director of the entire festival ensured the evening concerts would be remembered forever, as he put together a line-up that didn’t disappoint.

Grammy Award-winning jazz singer Kurt Elling headlined the concerts, along with acclaimed vocalist Lizz Wright and instrumentalists from the Herbie Hancock Institute. While jazz legend, Rickey Woodard (sax), from the Ray Charles Band and arguably the best Hammond Organ player of all time, Joey De Francesco, had the stadium swinging on both nights.

The fruits of everyone’s hard work was celebrated when Vocal Jazz Gold placed 2nd in Division 3, Vocal Jazz Blue placed 3rd in Division 2, Big Band One placed 4th in Division Two and Big Band Two earnt 9th place in Division 4. The celebrations continued when the baritone saxophone position for the Superband in Division 4 was awarded to Dhanan!

Congratulations to each and every member of the 2019 GIJ tour as they not only represented our school well but we can all be really proud of the fine young musicians they are.
