History made at the 2022 Athletics Carnival

Congratulations to the Morphett Monsters who took out the 2022 ICOSA Track & Field Shield as overall Athletics Carnival Champions for the first time in history.

The Monsters finally broke the winning streak of the Jeffcott Jags, who placed 2nd (and who had won the shield for the last 4 years in a row), with the Whinham Wildcats finishing in 3rd place.

Morphett also walked away with the Middle School Shield and the Relay Shield, while Jeffcott won the Senior School Shield.

What a magnificent Athletics Carnival it was, with a fantastic atmosphere, lots of colour, fun and team spirit on display as well as friendly rivalry in the competition.

A big thank you to all of our students for their participation, for giving their all and for bringing amazing team spirit to the house competition. It really is a special day. Thank you to the students who assisted on the day with marshalling, photography and supporting their fellow teammates. Big thank you to our staff for the massive effort in staging this event.

The points Houses earn at Athletics Carnival go towards their overall points tally for the prestigious Paterson Shield awarded at the end of the year for participation in many areas of school life including academics, sport, service, public speaking to name a few.

From the winning Morphett House Captains:

The very first Athletics Day was held in 1975, when only 4 Houses existed. Some 47 years later, there are now 10 Houses, that have won the overall Athletics Champion House Shield at least once, except one House: Morphett. However, this all changed on 1 April, 2022, when history was made, and the Morphett Monsters won their first overall Athletics Champion Shield! We finally had the joy and pride of holding up that Shield which will now be forever engraved: 2022 Morphett!

The whole day was phenomenal, filled with excitement throughout the entire school. All the houses were out to beat their personal bests and keep their positions on the track and field ladder. The competition between all the houses was challenging and tough, but the hard work, tremendous dedication and remarkable participation efforts from the Morphett Monsters allowed them to succeed in achieving their first Athletics Carnival win. As described by others, it was a sea of orange the entire day! Although Morphett excelled on the day, a big congratulations go to all the house captains and house coordinators that have dedicated their time and energy over the last couple of weeks, spurring on enthusiasm and setting their teams up for success, which has been challenging in these unprecedented times. A special mention to the Jeffcott Jags who won the Senior School Track and Field Shield and placed 2nd overall. They have been an exemplary house that have always shown determination, loyalty, and outstanding participation. They have been a House that Morphett have looked up to as inspiration.

Every student who participated must be commended, it was an amazing day for all houses, and we appreciate the tireless effort that staff and students put into making this one of the most memorable days on the Immanuel Calendar.
